The East Coast of Ireland boasts two capital cities, Dublin and Belfast. If you are staying in Dublin City you will not need a car as there is plenty of public transport and taxis. The city is best seen on foot and there are lot sof hotels in the centre of Dublin.
Thw M1 motorway will take you north of Dublin to Meath and Louth and it runs as far as the border with Northern Ireland.
The M2 will take you to Meath and Louth and the M3 will take you to Cavan.
The M4 goes through Meath, Westmeath and Longford and the M7 takes you through Kildare, Laois and Offaly.
The M9 will take you to Carlow and Kilkenny and the M11 goes to Wicklow and Wexford.
The M50 is a major ringroad around the city and it runs from Dublin Airport in the North to just north of Bray in County Wicklow, wher it joins the M11.
Some motorways are tolled so you should be prepared to pay tolls. There is an automated toll on the M50 near the junction with the M4. Motorists have 24 hours to pay the toll which can be paid online or at most newsagents. Failure to pay the toll will result in increased toll charges and penalties.
